Remarks on Neoscalpellum marginatum.
The holotype of Neoscalpellum marginatum and an additional specimen were taken together at Challenger Stn 216. The additional specimen was described by Hoek (1883) as Scalpellum ovatum. Later it was considered to be a synonym of S. marginatum by Newman & Ross (1971), based on the close similarities in the details of shell morphology. Young (2007), however, considered Neoscalpellum ovatum as a separate species. The appendages of this species have not yet been studied, and a throughout study will help to establish the systematics of these species.
